The Violets swept the Drexel Dragons in this past weekend’s home-home series, winning 2-0 on Saturday, and 4-3 on Sunday, increasing their record to 6-0-1.
On Saturday night, NYU started the first period strong with a power play goal by Jackson Oleson only five minutes in. Oleson’s goal was assisted by John Dorio. Throughout the rest of the first period and all of the second, neither team scored. Shortly into the third NYU scored again, this time with the goal going to Reagan Wortz from Aidan Wright and Isaac Davison. With the 2-0 win, goalie Chris Cataldo earned his first shut-out as a Violet.
“We all just kept our mindsets focused for the whole game,” said Cataldo. “We don’t like to lose.”
NYU also started out Sunday’s game against Drexel strong with a goal in the first period from Elias Cohen, assisted by Mac Brice and captain Jake Geller. In the second period, the Violets scored twice more, first by James Orne from Adam Peck and John Dorio, and again by Isaac Davison, unassisted. Drexel also scored once in the second period and twice more in the third, leaving the teams tied and forcing the game into overtime. Orne got his second goal of the day with the game winning goal less than four minutes into overtime.
With these two wins, NYU moves into a tie for first place in the ESCHL. The Violets battle it out for the top spot with Stony Brook with a home-home series this weekend. 9pm on Friday at home, and at 8:10 pm on Saturday in Stony Brook.
