Welcome to NYU Hockey!
Though we are still months away from the 2025-2026 season, preparations are of course underway! The 2024-2025 season saw a total of 19 new players don an NYU hockey jersey for the first time, and only one player from the 2024-2025 roster will graduate this spring — team captain, graduate student, Jackson Oleson. Twenty-two of the students on the 2024-2025 roster were either first-years or sophomores. The team successfully transitioned to a new league, moving from the ESCHL to the ECHA. The ECHA now boasts four of the most competitive academic institutions in ACHA Men’s Division 1 — NYU, Villanova, Navy, and Lehigh. The move aligns the hockey program and university with like-minded institutions. The team has posted an average GPA above 3.60 for four straight semesters.
The 2023-2024 season was one of the best the program has experienced since making the jump to Division I in 2017. After the first weekend of games, the Violets were ranked 23rd in the country (out of 72 schools) and managed to go as high as 17th –- the highest ranking in school history. The Violets finished last season with a record of 11-7-4, en route to being named team of the year at the university. Captain Adam Svoboda ’24 was named student-athlete of the year, while his brother Alex Svoboda ’27 took home all-league rookie team honors.
The future is bright for NYU Hockey! We look forward to seeing all of our fans in the stands at Chelsea Piers this October when the new season kicks off! Be sure to follow along on Instagram — @NYUIceHockey, and YouTube — @NYUIceHockey1862.
